Sharing Addresses

Last Updated on Oct 21, 2010 9:15 PM

The real power of Family Clippings is in the ability to share addresses with others. Without this feature this site is just a fancy high-powered version of the paper address book you've been writing in for years.

On July 3, 2000, Dominic and Scott talked about creating a web site that would allow multiple people to share the same address so that when that address information changed it would be changed for everyone who viewed it.

For example: your brother changes phone numbers often. Rather than have to ask everyone what his latest phone number is anyone who finds out what it is can update his information and everyone that his address has been shared with will be able to see the new number. (Ideally your brother is also using Family Clippings and he changes it himself)

To share an address view the address you wish to share and click on the "Share Address" icon Share This Address with Other Members. You will then see a list of other Family Clippings members with which you can share that address. Select the members by clicking on their name (CTRL-click to select multiple) and click on the Submit button.

You will then see a message that indicates if the sharing operation was successful (there's no reason it shouldn't be). The person(s) that you shared the address with will see a notice on the main page of the Address Book that they have shared addresses waiting for them.
