Using Family Clippings to Send Christmas Cards

Last Updated on Nov 13, 2007 11:59 AM

A great feature of this site is how easy it is to maintain a Christmas Card list! You can track the addresses of the people you send cards to in a special folder, and even export those addresses to create customized address labels.

To get started

Create an Address Folder called "Christmas Cards" or whatever you desire. In the sidebar of the Address Book, click on "Maintain Address Folders" and enter the name in the right-hand column under "Add a New Address Folder" and click on the "Add Folder" button.

Now, you will see a list of all your folders in the left-hand column. Find the new folder name you just created and click on "[edit members]". This will take you to a page that has two columns. The column on the left has all the addresses in your address book.

Choose an address that you want to add to the "Christmas Cards" folder and click on the hand icon in the middle the points to the right-hand column. This will add that address to your new folder. (You can select multiple addresses by holding down the "Control" key while you click on each address you wish to add.) Once you have added the addresses you want in the folder, click on the "Save" button to save your changes.

Now you can export those addresses by clicking on the "Export Addresses" link in the sidebar. Select the "Christmas Cards" folder by checking the box next to its name, and click on the "Next >" button.

By default, all of the addresses are selected, so you can continue the export process by clicking on the "Export Addresses" button. This will download the tab-delimited file to your computer, and you can choose to save it to a convenient location on your computer.

This file is ready to be imported into WordPerfect or Microsoft Word or any other program that you would like to use to create the labels. Most programs call this a "mail merge" and will have directions for how to do it with that specific program.

We have provided a WordPerfect label template, and will add more designs and for other programs if you send us your favorite.
